Parliamentary elections to elect the Parliament of the Cook Islands are scheduled to take place on August 12, 2026. This market will resolve to the next individual who officially assumes the office of Prime Minister of Cook Islands following the 2026 Cook Islands parliamentary elections. To count for resolution, the individual must be officially sworn in. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister will not count toward the resolution of this market. If no such Prime Minister takes office by July 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Cook Islands; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.Mark Brown’s commanding position in the Cook Islands prime minister market stems from the Cook Islands Party’s decisive victory in the 12 August 2026 general election, securing 13 of 24 seats outright and additional support from independents to reach a supermajority of 19 seats. This outcome followed the dissolution of parliament in late June and allowed Brown to retain his role as head of government after forming the new administration. Opposition parties fared poorly, with the Democratic Party winning no seats and its leader losing her constituency, while the Cook Islands United Party took four. Trader consensus reflects the scale of this result and the absence of viable immediate challengers under the territory’s Westminster-style system. Rare scenarios that could still alter the outcome include successful legal challenges to seat counts or an unforeseen vacancy before formal confirmation of the new government.
