Baba Malam Wali holds a dominant position in the Yobe gubernatorial race as the All Progressives Congress nominee following his landslide primary victory in May 2026, where he secured over 236,000 votes against several challengers. The outcome followed stakeholder consensus efforts and endorsement by incumbent Governor Mai Mala Buni as his preferred successor, alongside support from former Governor Ibrahim Geidam and local government chairmen. Wali’s candidacy aligns with regional equity demands for Yobe North representation, and recent developments including royal tours, opposition defections to the APC, and party reconciliation committees have reinforced APC cohesion ahead of the 2027 polls. In a state where the ruling party maintains strong grassroots control and faces limited organized opposition, these factors underpin trader consensus around his prospects while leaving limited room for alternatives absent major shifts in party dynamics or security conditions.
