Multiple parties have announced candidates ahead of South Africa’s November 4 local government elections, fragmenting support in eThekwini. Recent moves include the MK Party naming Zandile Hlophe-Mkhwanazi, the IFP selecting Mkhuleko Hlengwa, the DA backing Haniff Hoosen, ActionSA choosing Zwakele Mncwango, and the EFF naming Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi. Ipsos polling shows the MK Party leading with around 55 percent support, while the ANC has yet to finalize its contender from a shortlist that includes incumbent Cyril Xaba. The absence of an outright majority in most scenarios points to coalition negotiations after the vote, which keeps implied probabilities spread across leading names and limits any single candidate’s share in trader consensus.
