The French Senate election on September 27 will renew 178 seats through an indirect vote dominated by municipal and departmental councilors, where Les Républicains currently hold 131 seats. Trader consensus on modest net losses of three to ten seats reflects revised internal projections narrowing expected declines from nine or ten earlier in the year, thanks to recent municipal gains and the structural edge traditional right and center parties retain in the grand électeurs college. Localized pressure from Rassemblement National lists in departments such as Alpes-Maritimes and Bouches-du-Rhône creates downside risk, while potential LR gains elsewhere and right-wing list unity could limit losses. The close spread between the leading 121-124 and 125-128 bins underscores uncertainty over final group membership counts, including apparentés and rattachés, once new senators organize by mid-October.
