Cuba maintains no extradition treaty with the United States, and Havana has rejected the charges as politically motivated while Castro remains on the island. At age 95, he made limited public appearances through mid-2026, including events around his birthday, but recent unconfirmed reports from Miami-based outlets cite sources claiming a stroke and hospitalization in early September, with his condition described as critical or stable depending on the account. Cuban officials have offered no confirmation, and no verified developments indicate departure from Cuba or any handover. Traders assessing custody timelines weigh the indictment's enforcement options against longstanding barriers to physical transfer of senior Cuban figures.
