A by-election for the Alberta provincial electoral district of Calgary-Shaw is currently scheduled to be held on September 14, 2026. This market will resolve according to the candidate who wins the 2026 Calgary-Shaw provincial by-election. If the election results are not known definitively by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "Other". The resolution source for this market will be a consensus of credible reporting. In case of ambiguity, this market will resolve solely based on official election results as published by Elections Alberta (https://www.elections.ab.ca/).Mike Derry holds a commanding lead in the Calgary-Shaw by-election market as the United Conservative Party candidate in a riding long held by the party. His June nomination victory over sitting city councillor Dan McLean, followed by Premier Danielle Smith’s endorsement, consolidated UCP support ahead of the September 14 vote to replace former MLA Rebecca Schulz. The suburban Calgary district has consistently favored conservative candidates in recent provincial contests, and the UCP maintains strong local organization and voter identification. Other candidates, including NDP’s Kyle Campbell and smaller-party or independent entrants, face structural disadvantages in turnout and resources. Late developments such as candidate controversies or unusually low participation could narrow margins, though historical patterns in similar Alberta by-elections suggest limited scope for reversal before election day.
