The tightness stems from a 2025 council split that produced rival slates, pitting Harvie's emphasis on continuity and major infrastructure against Kruger's "back-to-basics" platform of no new taxes or levies, recreation facilities, and restored advisory committees. With nominations closing September 11 and the October 17 vote weeks away, traders see limited separation until clearer signals emerge on property-tax pressures, Metro Vancouver governance reform, and any late independent candidacies.
