The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from Israel and the Syria, however a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.**Ongoing US-mediated security talks between Israel and Syria, focused on border arrangements rather than full diplomatic normalization, shape current trader assessments.** Following the December 2024 fall of the Assad regime, Damascus under President Ahmed al-Sharaa has pursued de-escalation through direct and indirect channels with Jerusalem, including Paris meetings in January 2026 that produced a trilateral intelligence-sharing mechanism and calls to revive the 1974 disengagement framework. Subsequent rounds in Amman and elsewhere have addressed Israeli strikes, incursions into southern Syria, Druze protections, and a potential non-aggression or security pact tied to Israeli withdrawal from post-Assad buffer zones. Core obstacles persist, including Syria’s insistence on territorial integrity and Golan Heights claims, Israeli red lines on southern demilitarization and Mount Hermon presence for threat monitoring, and periodic escalations such as the August 2026 Abu al-Duhur airbase strike. These dynamics sustain market focus on limited security understandings over broader normalization in the near term.
