This market will resolve based on the countries that officially recognize Palestine as a state by December 31, 2026, 11:59pm ET. An announcement of intentions will not suffice to resolve this market to "Yes." Only a government's formal recognition of the State of Palestine will count toward a “Yes” resolution for this market. The primary resolution source for this market will be official government information. However, a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.A surge of recognitions in September 2025 brought the total to roughly 157 UN member states, as France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Portugal, and several smaller European nations formalized support for Palestinian statehood during a UN conference co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia aimed at advancing a two-state solution. Several announcements carried conditions tied to hostage releases, Hamas exclusion from governance, Palestinian Authority reforms, and elections. As of mid-2026, Belgium has advanced its process following shifts in Hamas administration of Gaza, while holdouts among G7 and NATO partners such as Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States continue to link any move to negotiated outcomes or specific benchmarks. Ongoing diplomatic initiatives, potential 2026 Palestinian elections, and ceasefire developments remain key variables that could prompt additional recognitions before the 2027 cutoff.
