Traffic has fallen well below pre-crisis levels of 65–72 vessels per day to around 35–41 daily crossings, with sharper drops in tankers and Saudi-related movements after the blockade; many operators reroute via the Cape of Good Hope while shadow fleets continue limited use. The strait remains a critical alternative for Saudi oil exports rerouted from the disrupted Strait of Hormuz, but persistent threats, insurance withdrawals, and Yemen’s civil war escalation keep effective closure risks elevated through missile positioning and enforcement. Upcoming factors include further Yemeni ground advances, multinational naval responses, and any shifts in the broader regional conflict.
