Hsu Shu-hua, the Kuomintang incumbent Nantou County magistrate, holds a commanding lead in the November 28, 2026, election due to strong local party unity and a record of fiscal and infrastructure gains. She recently completed candidate registration alongside KMT township and city mayor nominees under the “13+1 home run” banner, highlighting debt reduction of NT$9.1 billion, expanded senior health insurance subsidies, nutrition lunch funding, and new transit hubs plus rural bus services. Her deep county roots and prior 2022 victory margin reinforce trader consensus. Wen Shih-cheng, the Democratic Progressive Party nominee and a New Taipei dentist with limited local experience, trails significantly. Late shifts could arise from unforeseen scandals, health developments, or national political swings before election day.
