Recent polls in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ahead of the September 20 Landtag election show the AfD leading at 35-37% while the SPD holds second at 28-32%, with the Linke third near 11% and the CDU slipping to 8-10%. The SPD’s recent gains of two to three points have narrowed the gap without overtaking the AfD, reinforcing its position as the clear runner-up. Smaller parties such as the Grüne hover at the five-percent threshold and the BSW below it, limiting their prospects for second place. These trends, reflected in multiple surveys through late August, underpin the elevated implied probability for the SPD finishing second and the correspondingly low probabilities assigned to the AfD and trailing parties.
