Recent polling averages show the AfD maintaining a consistent lead over the SPD ahead of the 20 September 2026 Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Landtag election, with the AfD at 35–37% and the SPD at 28–32% in surveys from Infratest dimap, Forsa, and INSA conducted in late August. This positioning reflects the AfD’s sustained strength in eastern German state elections, where it has outpaced the SPD by double-digit margins in most 2026 readings, while the incumbent SPD–Left coalition has lost support from its 2021 result. The SPD’s modest gains in the most recent Infratest dimap survey have narrowed the gap without reversing the order. Other parties, including the Linke and CDU, trail further behind and do not alter the direct AfD–SPD comparison. Traders price the AfD’s higher probability of finishing first in first-preference votes accordingly.
