The postponement of Lebanon’s parliamentary elections from May 2026 to 2028, approved by parliament in March amid escalating Israel-Hezbollah fighting and widespread displacement, has left the outcome highly uncertain. Security conditions, the confessional electoral system allocating seats by sect, and shifting alliances among major blocs—including the Shia Amal-Hezbollah duo, Christian parties such as Lebanese Forces and Free Patriotic Movement, and Druze or Sunni groups—remain central variables. Trader consensus prices reflect this fragmentation and the absence of imminent voting, with no movement holding a clear path to a majority in the 128-seat chamber. Factors that could consolidate support include progress on ceasefire implementation, army deployment in the south, or new electoral law changes that alter district dynamics and expatriate voting.
