Recent August ISM Services PMI strength at 55.4, exceeding consensus near 54.3 and July’s 54.1, has lifted trader focus toward the mid-54s for September, with the top two brackets capturing over half the probability mass. Broad demand gains drove the print, including new orders at 60.9 and business activity at 61.7, alongside rising backlogs, though employment stayed in contraction at 47.8 and the prices index climbed to 72.6 amid tariff and Middle East supply-chain pressures. Market-implied odds balance sustained momentum from resilient services activity against potential moderation toward the 12-month average near 53.7, given cautious hiring and elevated input costs. The September release, scheduled for October 5, will test whether these dynamics persist amid ongoing inflation and labor-market signals.
