China’s July CPI print of 0.5% year-on-year, below consensus and driven by ongoing food deflation (notably pork) plus softer non-food prices amid weak household spending and property-sector drag, has shaped expectations for the August annual rate. Analysts note persistent slack in domestic demand, capacity overhang in manufacturing, and moderating global energy costs as key downward pressures, with only limited offsets from services, medical pricing, and targeted policy measures. Forecasts cluster around 0.7%, supporting the 0.7%-0.8% band as the modal outcome while allowing scope for upside from base effects or fiscal stimulus transmission and downside from further demand weakness. The National Bureau of Statistics release, due mid-September, will resolve the market.
