This market will resolve to “Yes” if the listed individual officially announces that they are running for U.S. President in the 2028 United States presidential election by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. An announcement by the listed individual will be sufficient to trigger a "Yes" resolution, regardless of whether they actually filed a nomination to run, or whether they actually file a nomination to run in the future. A qualifying announcement must be explicit and unambiguous. Conditional statements, or statements that are clearly sarcastic, made in jest, or immediately clarified as not being genuine will not count. The primary resolution source for this market will be official statements by the listed individual (ex: via speech, social media, etc.), however a consensus of credible reporting may also be used. With the 2026 midterm elections approaching in November, potential 2028 contenders are engaging in early positioning through visits to Iowa, New Hampshire, and other early primary states, donor outreach, podcast appearances, and polling efforts, though no major-party figures have formally declared. On the Republican side, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio draw the most speculation as leading figures in an open field after President Trump’s term-limited tenure, with others such as Ron DeSantis, Ted Cruz, and Rand Paul also mentioned. Democrats face a wide-open contest featuring former Vice President Kamala Harris, Governor Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, and governors like Andy Beshear or Josh Shapiro, amid ongoing shadow campaigns and internal party discussions about the primary calendar. A handful of lesser-known or exploratory steps have occurred, including Dan Greaney’s May 2026 announcement and Royce White’s August 2026 filing, but the bulk of announcements are expected after the midterms into early 2027. Traders monitor these developments for signals on timing, as formal entries or exploratory committees could shift focus among listed options.
