Expanded eligibility rules for the September 20 Berlin Abgeordnetenhaus election have added hundreds of thousands of new voters through higher naturalization rates and first-time participation by 16- and 17-year-olds, enlarging the pool well beyond the 2.43 million eligible in the 2023 repeat vote that recorded 62.9% turnout. A tight multi-party contest—reflected in recent polls showing CDU, Linke, AfD, and Greens clustered in the high teens—has intensified mobilization efforts across the spectrum. No offsetting procedural hurdles or major disruptions have emerged to dampen participation expectations, supporting trader consensus that turnout will exceed the prior benchmark.
