Recent South Korea CPI readings, including the August 2026 rebound to 3.1% year-over-year driven by core items at 3.4% and base effects, have elevated trader focus on whether demand pressures from 3.3% GDP growth and elevated oil prices will sustain full-year inflation near or above 3.0%. The Bank of Korea’s unchanged 2.7% 2026 forecast alongside two 25-basis-point rate hikes to 3.0% underscores policy vigilance, while analyst estimates cluster in the high-2% range amid fading supply shocks but building consumption and wage effects. With probabilities split between the 3.0%+ bucket at 31.1% and the 2.4-2.6% range at 23.9%, markets reflect uncertainty over how quickly core trends moderate ahead of the September CPI release and October monetary policy decision.
