Recent polling across multiple institutes shows the AfD maintaining a commanding lead of roughly 18–21 points over the CDU ahead of the September 6 Landtag election, placing the Christian Democrats firmly in second while the Left trails further back at 11–12 percent. Incumbent Minister President Sven Schulze’s CDU has seen modest erosion in support compared with prior cycles, yet no other party has closed the gap enough to contest the runner-up position in projections. The five-percent threshold dynamics further reinforce this hierarchy, with smaller parties such as the FDP and BSW at risk of exclusion. A narrow CDU second-place finish could still be disrupted by unusually high turnout favoring smaller lists or an unforeseen late shift in voter preferences within the final 24 hours, though current evidence indicates limited scope for such movement.
