As of September 2026, early trader sentiment for the 2027 Best Actor nominations centers on high-profile star vehicles from the summer and fall release slate. Matt Damon’s physically demanding turn as Odysseus in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has generated significant momentum due to the film’s scale and critical early tracking, while Tom Cruise’s collaboration with Alejandro G. Iñárritu on Digger fuels the long-standing “first Oscar” narrative. Supporting factors include strong Venice and Telluride buzz for John Malkovich in Wild Horse Nine and Andrew Scott’s prestige drama work. With nominations voting set for mid-January 2027, the field remains fluid pending fall festival premieres, guild screenings, and box-office performance that historically influence Academy branch voters.
