Eva Bender holds a commanding lead in trader pricing for the September 13, 2026, direct election of the Hannover Region president, reflecting her unanimous SPD nomination as successor to incumbent Steffen Krach, who is not seeking re-election. Her background as a Dezernentin for education and culture in Hannover and prior roles in Langenhagen and Braunschweig underpins the consensus, alongside the SPD's established regional strength. Oliver Junk trails as the CDU nominee with prior executive experience as Goslar mayor, though his support remains narrower. The remaining nine candidates, including Sinja Münzberg of the Greens and Nicolas Lehrke of the AfD, register minimal implied probability amid a fragmented field of eleven contenders. A runoff on September 27 would occur only if no candidate secures an outright majority, with recent campaign focus on mobility, health infrastructure, and local services shaping assessments ahead of the vote.
