Tarrant County’s suburban voter base in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro has trended more competitive in recent cycles, supporting Democratic gains in federal races despite the county’s overall Republican tilt. James Talarico secured the Democratic nomination after defeating U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the March primary, while Ken Paxton advanced by defeating incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the May 26 Republican runoff. Statewide polling through late August showed the general election close or tied, with substantial outside spending targeting Paxton. On September 1, Tarrant commissioners approved closing about one-third of polling sites for cost reasons, prompting concerns over turnout effects ahead of the November 3 general election. These elements have shaped trader assessments of the county-level outcome.
