USGS monitoring shows only minor seismic activity near Los Angeles in recent months, with events below magnitude 3.5 and no foreshock sequences or strain spikes signaling an imminent large rupture on the San Andreas or nearby faults. The market's 97.2% implied probability for "No" stems primarily from the short remaining window to December 31, 2026—roughly four months—set against long-term models indicating roughly 0.2% annual likelihood of an M6.5+ mainshock in central LA. Recurrence intervals for such events span decades to centuries, consistent with the 1994 Northridge quake as the last comparable event. While accumulated tectonic stress raises longer-term risk, short-term forecasts carry high uncertainty, and any sudden model revision or unexpected triggered rupture could still shift odds before year-end.
