Recent observational data from National Weather Service stations around Houston confirm overnight lows reached 78–79°F on September 5, 2026, aligning with the market’s dominant 90% implied probability for that bin. Persistent high humidity, dew points near 75°F, and limited overnight clearing under subtropical high pressure suppressed radiative cooling, keeping minimum temperatures several degrees above the 1991–2020 climatological average of 74.8°F. Model guidance in the preceding 48 hours showed consensus around these values with little spread, while the absence of any frontal passage or enhanced mixing further supported the elevated floor. Traders therefore assigned only single-digit odds to cooler outcomes, reflecting both the observed atmospheric setup and the narrow historical range for early-September minima in the region.
