Alibaba holds a narrow edge in trader sentiment for the top Chinese AI company by end of September, driven by Qwen3.8-Max's strong benchmark results, over three billion cumulative open-weight downloads, and triple-digit growth in AI-related cloud revenue. The contest remains closely matched because Moonshot’s Kimi K3 leads several agentic and coding evaluations with its large MoE architecture, while DeepSeek’s efficient V4 models and open-source releases continue attracting developers. Z.ai, MiniMax, and ByteDance add pressure through rapid iteration and specialized capabilities. With resolution imminent, any new benchmark updates, funding announcements, or cloud adoption figures could shift the narrow margins among these labs.
