The tightly bunched probabilities around 37-41% for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix fastest lap underscore Baku's inherent unpredictability under the new 2026 power unit rules and Overtake Mode system. The street circuit's long straights reward strong top-end speed and straight-line stability while its tight corners and low-grip surface demand precise tire management, often leading to late-race safety car interventions that allow teams to pit for fresh soft compounds without major position loss. Drivers and squads conserving those soft sets gain a clear edge for a final flying lap attempt, flattening the field across the grid regardless of qualifying position or recent form. Historical patterns of red flags, crashes, and compressed racing further heighten the chance for midfield challengers like Colapinto or Bottas to capitalize alongside established names.
