This market will resolve to "Yes" if the World Health Organization (WHO) declares a new COVID pandemic other than COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) between market creation and December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The resolution source will be official announcements from the World Health Organization.Widespread population immunity from prior SARS-CoV-2 infections and vaccinations, alongside low-level circulation of existing Omicron sublineages such as NB.1.8.1 and XFG, underpins trader consensus for a "No" outcome at 96.2% implied probability. Official WHO and CDC surveillance through mid-2026 reports global test positivity rates near 1.7–4%, modest case increases in localized areas, and hospitalization and mortality figures far below pandemic thresholds, with no novel coronavirus exhibiting sustained human-to-human transmission or elevated virulence detected in genomic or wastewater monitoring. Seasonal late-summer upticks reflect typical respiratory patterns rather than escalation. A realistic shift could occur if a new zoonotic spillover or highly immune-evasive variant triggers WHO pandemic criteria, though current variant-under-monitoring assessments indicate low near-term risk pending further surveillance data.
