The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, signed on August 7, 2026, by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey, establishes a mutual defense framework under which an armed attack on one signatory is treated as an attack on all, while promoting broader military and strategic cooperation. The pact was explicitly framed as open to additional participants seeking regional stability, with Turkish officials and others signaling interest in expansion. As of early September 2026, no new members have formally joined. Egypt has stated it is conducting detailed legal and constitutional reviews, Bangladesh has signaled positive consideration following invitations, and Syria has indicated it is evaluating participation. Discussions have also referenced possible interest from other Gulf or Muslim-majority states amid ongoing regional security realignments. Diplomatic visits, ministerial meetings, and official statements through the remainder of 2026 could clarify accession timelines ahead of the December 31 deadline.

This market will resolve to “Yes” if the listed country formally joins the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”.
The listed country will be considered to have formally joined if either of the following occurs:
- the country signs the Agreement or a formal accession protocol or instrument that, by its terms or official characterization, makes it a party, member, or signatory; or
