Magomed Ankalaev’s dominant fifth-round finish over Bogdan Guskov at UFC Abu Dhabi in July has kept him active at light heavyweight, but the division’s title picture remains fluid with champion Carlos Ulberg sidelined by an ACL injury until at least 2027. Ankalaev has publicly welcomed a potential bout with Paulo Costa, citing the Brazilian’s comments and expressing willingness to fight in Abu Dhabi in October, which has elevated Costa’s implied probability alongside Ulberg and Jiri Prochazka. Multiple ranked contenders and stylistic matchups create a crowded field without a single frontrunner, as traders weigh recent performances, callouts, and the champion’s extended absence when assessing who secures the next slot.
