Traffic has partially recovered for non-targeted carriers through clearances or shadow-fleet routing, yet remains well below pre-crisis norms with insurance restrictions and rerouting adding costs. Recent Houthi ground offensives near Taiz and toward Mocha port, less than 50 miles from the strait, have intensified clashes and raised the prospect of improved positioning to monitor or interdict passages. Parallel disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz have increased reliance on this route for some flows while highlighting chokepoint vulnerabilities. Upcoming ground advances or further attacks could shift effective closure assessments.
