The 2027 French presidential election, scheduled for a first round on April 18 with a potential runoff on May 2, features a crowded field shaped by Emmanuel Macron’s constitutional ineligibility for a third consecutive term. Marine Le Pen’s National Rally (RN) leads most first-round polling at 29–35 percent following an appeals court ruling that eased her prior ineligibility, enabling her declared candidacy alongside party president Jordan Bardella as a potential alternative. Fragmentation persists on the center-right, where Édouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal compete for Macron-aligned voters, and on the left, where Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Raphaël Glucksmann, and others prepare for an October 2026 primary. Bruno Retailleau represents Les Républicains, while additional declared contenders from smaller parties increase the prospect of further withdrawals before the 500-signature threshold. These dynamics position RN figures as near-certain first-round qualifiers while leaving the second candidate uncertain.
