Édouard Philippe’s sustained lead in recent polling within France’s centrist bloc underpins the strong trader consensus favoring him for the 2027 presidential election. Surveys conducted in late August and early September 2026 show Philippe drawing 17-19% in first-round scenarios as the bloc’s candidate, ahead of Gabriel Attal’s 13-15%, with Marine Le Pen leading overall at around 34%. Philippe has advanced unity talks with center-right figures ahead of potential November-February negotiations, while Attal’s active summer campaign and recent debate performances have narrowed but not erased the gap. Persistent personal rivalries between the two former prime ministers risk splitting centrist support, a dynamic reflected in the modest probabilities assigned to Attal or joint outcomes. Scheduled autumn primaries and further polling releases could still shift positioning before the April 2027 vote.
