President Trump endorsed a social media proposal in April 2026 to rebrand Immigration and Customs Enforcement as National Immigration and Customs Enforcement, creating the acronym NICE, primarily to counter media coverage of enforcement operations. The idea gained traction through White House and DHS social media posts and a June 2026 public poll on Truth Social where supporters favored the change. Any formal rename requires congressional legislation to amend the agency's authorizing statute, rather than executive action alone. Reports indicate resistance from rank-and-file agents and border czar Tom Homan, with some administration officials framing the effort as a meme rather than a priority. No bills advancing the rebranding have moved in Congress.
