The resolution source for this market is Yahoo Finance — specifically, the 1-minute interval ("1m") chart data for S&P 500 (SPX) available at https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/%5EGSPC/.The S&P 500 closed at 7,673.52 on September 8, 2026, near recent highs amid 18% year-over-year gains driven by broad earnings expansion. Elevated inflation remains the dominant factor shaping trader positioning, with July headline PCE at 3.7% and core at 3.4%, fueled by energy prices, tariffs, and AI-related capex pressures. The Federal Reserve, under Chair Kevin Warsh, has held the federal funds rate at 3.50–3.75% while signaling potential hikes, with futures pricing roughly two 25-basis-point increases by mid-2027. Solid 2–2.5% GDP growth and resilient labor data support equities, yet geopolitical tensions in the Middle East add volatility. Key near-term catalysts include the September 15–16 FOMC meeting with updated dot-plot projections, August CPI and PPI releases, and ongoing Q3 earnings reports that could clarify whether AI-driven profit momentum sustains index levels through year-end.
