The 2026–27 Scottish Premiership season opened on 31 July with a tightly contested defensive landscape that has kept prediction market pricing for the team with the most clean sheets extremely close. Early results show Celtic conceding just two goals across four matches while posting two clean sheets, St Mirren allowing three in four outings, and Hearts and Rangers also limiting damage effectively, yet no side has established a sustained edge. Significant summer transfer activity—including goalkeeper moves, new centre-backs at several clubs, and managerial changes at Rangers and Hearts—has reset defensive structures across the division. Motherwell, which led the league with 18 clean sheets in 2025–26, lost key personnel including their standout goalkeeper, further flattening expectations. With only a handful of fixtures completed, small sample variance, fixture difficulty, and potential injury impacts remain dominant variables, leaving traders to view the race as wide open among the twelve sides.
